Matoaka means "Bright Stream Between the Hills" in the language of the Powhatan/Algonquin native peoples of the Chesapeake region.

Originally a Girl Scout Camp built in 1923, Camp Matoaka was purchased by Connie and Larry Smith in 1960. They hosted generations of families and fossil hunters over the years who enjoyed this unique area in the Western Bay. We are happy to carry on that tradition. We hope you enjoy this special place.

Cabins are not furnished with linens nor kitchen implements. Please remember to bring: Bedding, towels, kitchen implements, paper products, soap and charcoal for the grill.
